So what deals are going on this week at Weis?  If you are headed to a Super Bowl party this Sunday you may want to take "possession" of some of the following items.  Don't worry. Anyone can "tackle" these deals as long as you have some coupons to "pass" to the checkout person!

How about free soda?!?

"Cut It Out, Bumble!"

Bumble likes to use a scissors.  She always is asking me if I have any scrap paper she can cut.  I do own one of those child like safety scissors that they make children use in kindergarten.  However, Bumble couldn't cut with them.  I tried to show her how to use them and even I couldn't cut with them! So I let her use the real thing.  I gave her a dull pair of regular scissors and I must say she is a pro at using them.  Here she is cutting left over coupon inserts...

Don't tell her she was cutting coupons I would never use.  She thought she was helping me.   Well Bumble maybe someday I will have to use those Depends coupons you cut out!

Anyway she does a great job of cutting on the dotted lines.  I have to admit Bumble, you are pretty "sharp" when it comes to using scissors!

Does Stinger Resemble His Mommy?

Here I am as a toddler...

and here is Stinger.

Do you see a resemblance? I think he received his blonde hair and blue eyes from me.  Now we just have to wait and see if he is left handed.  Honey will be so thrilled if he is!

Dear Lady At The PA Farm Show

Dear Lady at the PA Farm Show,

To answer your question, I am the mother that would let her son go sockless and shoeless in the winter.  Yes, I overheard your rude comment.  I knew this was coming. If you would read my post "Stinger's Big Feet" you would know how I thought I would get ugly stares this winter.  I just didn't think I would hear such a rude comment. Obviously you do not read my blog or you would know all about Stinger.  You see Stinger has always been a sensitive little boy.  He does not like anything on his feet.  Try to put yourself in Stinger's shoes....Oh wait he's not wearing any!  I assure you that his daddy and I put his socks and shoes on him numerous times throughout the day, but since he was riding in his stroller and part of the building was heated, we didn't think it was a fight worth fighting.  So farm show lady, before you are so quick to judge maybe you should find out the whole story or at least read my blog.  You seem like you are the kind that could use a little humor in your life!!

                                                                                                             From a protective Queen Bee

P.S. I feel so much better after writing this!

Queen Bee Makes Bee Sting Cake

I don't know about you but I am longing for warmer weather.  Unfortunately it looks like winter is going to be here for a couple more months.  However, that doesn't mean I can't break out my summer cookbook and pretend it's 80 degrees!

This cookbook cover pretty much sums up why I miss summer.  Wouldn't you like to live in that farmhouse on the cover?!  I would! While I was paging through this cookbook one recipe caught my eye.  Bee Sting Cake.  I never heard of this cake before so I did what anybody else would do and googled it!  Most of the recipes I found included a layer of some kind of pudding mixture.  However, I am going to share with you the recipe from the above cookbook from Gooseberry Patch.  This recipe does not contain the cream mixture and claims it is a quicker version of the cake.  Let me state here that I love Gooseberry Patch cookbooks!  Now let's all watch a Bee make Bee Sting Cake!

Here are the ingredients for Bee Sting Cake...

2 eggs, beaten
 1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup milk
2 Tablespoons Butter

First beat the eggs, sugar, vanilla, flour, and baking powder together in a large bowl.  It should resemble this...

Next in a saucepan combine the butter and milk over medium heat.  Bring it to a boil.

Then pour the boiling milk and butter mixture in the egg mixture.  Mix together and pour into an 8x8 greased pan.  I didn't have an 8x8 pan available so I used a slightly larger glass dish but it still worked out well!

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

While that is baking lets make the topping mixture. Here are the ingredients...

1/2 cup plus 2 Tablespoons brown sugar. packed
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Beat all of the above ingredients together...

Then when the cake is done spread the mixture over the cake right away.

The next part of this recipe contains a word that makes me nervous. Broil.  I don't like that word.  I am always scared that even though the dish says "broiler safe" that it is going to explode.  Maybe someday I will get over this fear.  Anyway, I made sure Honey was home when I attempted to broil this cake!  Honey makes everything ok!

Broil until the top is nice and bubbly, and please, please make sure your dish is broiler safe!

Here is the finished product!  A nice piece of Bee Sting Cake.

Disclaimer: No Bees were harmed in the making of this cake.  In fact the recipe didn't even call for bees! What a relief!

Queen Bee Rides the Ferris Wheel

I came across these pictures from the fall and thought I should share them.  Honey and Bumble convinced me to ride the Ferris Wheel with them at Hershey Park.  This was my first time on this big wheel.  Keep in mind, I am not a big fan of rides.  Upon gazing at the ride from the ground it appeared to be a slow moving, relaxing ride.  The first thing I noticed is when we sat down in our basket it swayed.  A lot.  Can you believe no one strapped us in?  There wasn't even straps for us to strap ourselves in.  The kiddie rides at Hershey Park all have straps.  How come the Ferris Wheel does not?  I have to strap my children in a car that stays on the ground but if my child dangles hundreds of feet in the air apparently no straps are needed! Here is strapless Bumble.  She is as happy as can be.

Here is Stinger and me.  I am holding on to him for dear life. I will admit I screamed not once but many times. Bumble laughed at me. So did Honey!

Here was the view.

I love the caution sign: Do not sit on step.  Why ever not?!

Oh Ferris Wheel, your slow moving motion is quite deceiving.  I don't think I "wheel" be riding you again!

If you stopped by this table you would have found this brochure!

Let's just say I might have picked up more than one.  Ok, so I took a handful!  Thank you Weis Markets!!!

Queen Bee Is Left Handed

I will admit that I am left handed.  Maybe you've picked up on this as you have read my blog!  I am the annoying one that always bumps other peoples elbows while eating at the table! I also do things a little bit differently than all you righties out there.  For instance this is how my Honey holds cards...

Notice the numbers are showing nicely in the upper corner.

Now I will show you how I, a proud lefty, holds cards...

Yes I look at the number at the bottom of the card, and yes all of the numbers at the bottom are upside down!  Now that takes skill!  Might I state here that Honey never even would have noticed how I held cards had he not have been looking at my cards!!!  Any other lefties out there that holds cards like me?   Honey doesn't believe anybody else exists in this world that would hold them like me.  I would like to prove him, a righty, wrong!

The Bees Go To The Farm Show, Part 3

Here are some pictures I took from the PA Farm show that didn't quite make it into my other posts.  This is the famous butter sculpture...

Of course I had to take a picture of some relatives.  What a big Bee family!

To be totally honest, this next picture sums up why I attend every year...

a bloomin' onion!  Delish!  I could eat this entire onion, but I chose to share!

Here are Bumble and Stinger on the shuttle bus back to our car.  While Honey and I devoured the onion, they ate graham crackers.

Everyone was happy!  Thank you PA Farm Show for all the fun!

Bumble And My Cookbooks

Is it strange that Bumble sits and looks at cookbooks?  How about for long periods of time?

Here she has my recipes and cookbooks scattered all over the kitchen floor.  Stinger is listening intently while Bumble explains how she is going to organize them!  Poor Stinger!  His sister is very opinionated!

In this picture I think she was pretending this was her chef's hat, because I asked her if she was wearing the hat because she was cold and she said no.

When she plays with her kitchen, my cookbooks double as her menu's.  By the way, did I ever show you my Betty Crocker cookbook?

Since Mrs, Crocker and I made up after our little coupon standoff I can show it to you now!  This book really does contain everything you need to know about cooking!

It's amazing how you can see at such a young age where your child's interests lie. I can see Bumble being a chef someday or a nurse.  I asked her what one she would rather be the other day and she said "I want to be a mommy so I can be both!"  Very wise Bumble!

Total retail value of all the above items pictured is $131.81.  I paid $52.59 for everything! Most of the coupons I used for this sale came from the coupons in Sunday's newspaper.

I also should mention that Stinger had fun playing with the paper towels and toilet paper!  He stacked them as high as he could and then would knock them down!   I love it when grocery items double as toys!
Stinger is mainly the reason I buy paper towels anyway.  He is so messy!

Also if you printed the Mini Wheat Crunch coupon from www.kelloggsfamilyrewards.com last month my Weis store had it on sale for $1.99 a box. The coupon I had doubled to $1.50.

Each box cost me $0.49!  Imagine my excitement when there was also a $0.50 cent off coupon on the back of each box!

All in all I think my Weis shopping trip was very "product"ive!

The Bees Go To The PA Farm Show, Part 2

One of the displays at the Farm Show was a butterfly house where you could get a close up view of lots of butterflies.  We stopped for some photos before we entered.  Here is Bumble the butterfly...

and Bumble the caterpillar.

Here Bumble and I are looking at the different kinds of butterflies.

It cost $2.00 a person to go inside the butterfly tent, but to me it was worth it.  Bumble was excited!
Upon entering every person was handed a q-tip that had been soaked in Gatorade.  They explained how butterflies taste with their feet.  Once inside you take the q-tip and touch it to the butterfly's feet and try to pick them up.  Here I am trying to get a butterfly to cooperate.

It worked!

Bumble held it too!

Bumble tried it by herself and got this one.

How pretty Bumble!

This picture gives you an idea of how many butterflies were inside.

On the wall were many chrysalises.  You could watch them emerge.

This was a great experience.  If only I would have remembered to take along our pet chrysalis Buzz.  Maybe he would have been inspired by all the other butterflies and would have come out of his chrysalis! Oh well, lets hope he emerges this spring!
