The Bees Mix Colors

Would you like to teach your child how to make orange, green, and purple using the three primary colors?  I thought so.  This is a fun activity that I am sure your child will enjoy. In order to do this you will need food coloring, six small bowls, water, a spoon, and newspapers.  Start by laying down a thick layer of newspaper as water is sure to get spilled.  That way there is not a lot of "be carefuls" and "What did you do!" coming out of your mouth!  Then, fill three of the bowls with some water.

Good job, Bumble!

Next we need to create the three primary colors by using the food coloring. Let's review. The three primary colors are red, blue, and yellow.   Ok, add one to two drops of blue food coloring to one of the bowls to make blue.  Do the same with the yellow and red food coloring.

                                                              Oh how pretty!

Now Bumble, do you know what two colors we need to mix together to make green? That's right, blue and yellow! Have your child spoon a little bit of the blue water and a little bit if the yellow water into a bowl. Stir it and see the green appear!

Next up orange.  Red and yellow mixed together make orange.

Now purple. Red and blue make purple.

Now we have all the colors.

Now lets experiment to see what else we can do.

Bumble made a pretty teal color.

Oh now that looks yucky, Bumble. What colors did you combine to make that? All of them!!

I guarantee your child will love this activity and have fun mixing colors to see that they can create.  You can also do this activity outside to avoid the cleanup if you would like.  Have fun "mixing it up" today with your child today!
